A Walk
Winchester, November 2011

Visted Winchester over the weekend. Beautiful historic city. Loads of character and a strong artsy feel, but maybe that was just because of the craft fair that was going on that weekend.
Loads of interesting and varied stalls.

I think it is interesting to look at streets which you are not use to walking on. Somehow when you are not familiar with them you see them in a different way.

Sketchbook: Charcoal Drawings

Few more drawings taken from Skectchbook on Drawing Project.

The drawings are done in charcoal with some stitch and are copies of famous photograhs taken from a book on women photographers. I was interested in age and skin. Looking a lines, creases and wrinkles in the skin.

These are my first charcoal drawings which has lead to me using charcoal in my next sketchbook.

Craft: Not so Christmassy Cards

I finally got card making, as I believe it is the season for card making! My cards didn't really turn out very Christmassy though but very fiddly and little bit too much glue.

I made just four cards before I got fustrated enough to stop. The swirls were put in simple arrangements, maybe I'll try so more complicated arrangements in the future.

Photography: Weekend Traveling

M5
 Somerset. February 2010

Just got back from another weekend away. There’s something interesting about the Friday night get away which only ever leads to the Sunday night return. This photo shows both the leaving and returning, divided from the bottom to the horizon. This juxtaposition of travelling away and back sums up how I'm feeling this Sunday evening.

Craft: Paper Shoes

My paper shoes.

Made with paper (hand dyed wallpaper), and found items, mainly old bits of jewellery, buttons and ribbons... and lots and lots of glue.

Made just for fun; it dosen't get much more impractical then paper shoes!

Wall Hanging: Autumnal bouquet

Autumn leaves gathered and displayed as wall hanging in three bunches increasing in size.  The leaves were dried before use to try to prevent mould growing. Some leaves have just been secured in bunches and others hang down on thread, some leaves have also been sewn into with thread. In the ‘bouquet’ as well as leaves there is also ribbon, pine cones and acorns.

I wanted this piece of seasonal work to have the feel of Autumn in it. The main material being used are leaves, which we see scattered everywhere over autumn. I wanted to play with the idea of gathering and haversting the autumnal objects and colours. I also wanted it to be ironic that all the things in my piece are actually dead which is the opposite to what you would normally put in a bouquet, but I still wanted it to have an element of beauty about it.
