TV : Kirstie's Handmade Britain

I have never been a big fan of Kirstie however the paper craft episode from her series on Channel Four Handmade Britain had some interesting artists featured on it.

Claire Coles does beautiful machine hand embroidery work. I recognised her work and originally thought she must be copying work I’d seen by other artists as Kirstie portrayed her as someone casually making a few gift cards in the kitchen. What Kirstie failed to mention is that she makes beautiful bespoke wallpaper, has been written about in magazines including Vouge, Elle and Country Living and sells a collection of gift cards in Paperchase and other independent stores. It’s nice to do a bit of craft on the side isn’t it? My irritation aside Claire Coles work is truly beautiful see her website for more images of her work.

Gift Card designed by Claire Coles which I received for my birthday this year.

Phiona Richards is making equally fascinating, her work having more of a sculptural element. Here are some of my favourites from her website.

In conclusion an interesting topics on the programme but frustratingly presented.
